A custom body pillow is a full length pillow, usually around 150 x 50 cm, printed with an image you choose. Depending on who you ask, you will also hear them called dakimakura, hugging pillows, or full body pillows.

The format started in Japan. Body pillows were sold as comfort items for side sleepers, then fans began printing characters on the covers, and the printed hugging pillow turned into its own category. The same printing now works for anything. A person, a pet, a piece of art, a logo, an inside joke.

Two things separate a body pillow from a regular printed cushion.

Size. At 150 cm it is roughly the length of a human torso plus head. That is what makes it huggable instead of decorative. You can actually sleep with it.

Print area. A body pillow gives you an enormous canvas. A face that would be thumbnail sized on a throw cushion prints close to life size here. That is why photo quality matters more on this product than on almost anything else you can print.

What we cannot print

Copyrighted characters you do not own the rights to. If you drew it or you commissioned it, you are fine. If it is a screenshot from a show, we have to say no. Everything else is fair game.

Not every photo makes a good custom picture body pillow. After thousands of orders the pattern is very clear.

Resolution beats everything

A body pillow print is large. A 500 pixel wide photo that looks fine on Instagram turns soft and blocky at 50 cm across. Aim for at least 1500 pixels on the short side. Photos from any phone made in the last five years are usually fine. Screenshots and images saved from social media usually are not, because those platforms compress heavily. Our tool warns you when a file is too small, so you are never guessing.

Lighting decides the mood

Even, natural light gives the best custom photo body pillow results. Harsh flash flattens faces. Very dim photos get noisy when enlarged. If you are choosing between a meaningful photo taken in bad light and a decent photo taken in good light, good light usually wins once it is printed at full size.

Think about the crop

A body pillow is tall and narrow, so vertical photos fit naturally. A wide landscape photo has to be cropped hard, which often means losing part of the subject. If your favorite photo is horizontal, the preview shows you exactly what survives the crop before you order.

Full body or face only

Both work, they just feel different. A full body shot recreates the person at close to life size, which is what most people picture when they imagine a custom body pillow. A face only design is bolder, funnier, and honestly more popular as a gag gift. Some customers put a body pillow custom image on one side and a plain color on the other.

Backgrounds

Busy backgrounds compete with your subject. A cluttered background still prints fine, but a clean or blurred one makes the subject pop. You do not need to edit anything yourself. Send what you have.

A quick checklist before you upload

• At least 1500 pixels on the short side
• The original file, not a screenshot
• Subject clearly lit
• Vertical if you have the option
• Nothing important sitting near the edges

Three decisions change how your custom body pillow looks and feels: fabric, size, and whether you need the insert.

Fabric

Peach skin is the default and the safest choice. Soft, slightly matte, breathable, and it holds color well. It is what most people picture when they imagine a body pillow.

2 way tricot is smoother and slightly shiny, with a stretch that makes the print look more vivid. It costs more and shows marks more easily. Pick it if color intensity matters to you above everything else.

If you cannot decide, choose peach skin. It is what we ship most and it draws the fewest complaints.

Size

The standard is 150 x 50 cm. The whole category is built around that size, so inserts and replacement covers stay easy to find later. We also print smaller desk and kid sized versions, and larger options if you want a genuinely life size custom body pillow. The preview updates when you change size, so you can watch the crop change before deciding.

Cover only or the full set

A custom body pillow case is just the printed cover. Order that if you already own a 150 x 50 insert. The full set includes the insert. Order that if you are starting from scratch or sending it as a gift, because nobody wants to unwrap a flat piece of fabric on their birthday.

Printing

Every pillow prints double sided as standard. Use the same image on both sides or two different images, at no extra cost.

The print is dye based and colorfast, so it survives washing without fading to pastel. The cover is machine washable on a cold gentle cycle. Skip the tumble dryer and it will look new for years.

Zippers and stitching

An invisible zipper runs along one edge so the cover comes off easily for washing. Seams are double stitched, because the failure point on a cheap body pillow is always the seam, never the fabric.

Production

About three days. That is the gap between placing your order and the finished pillow leaving production. We print on demand, so nothing sits in a warehouse waiting.

Shipping

Four to eight business days for most destinations, tracked. If you are ordering for a specific date, count backwards and add a few days of buffer. Around Christmas and Valentines Day, order earlier than you think you need to.

If something goes wrong

If the print does not match the preview you approved, tell us and we reprint it. That is the entire policy. It stays short because the preview removes almost every reason a custom body pillow goes wrong in the first place.
